Did you know that palm oil moves the world? From the food industry to biofuel production, this resource is fundamental to the global economy and represents a path toward environmental sustainability.
Colombia is positioned as a palm oil powerhouse in the Americas, with more than 260,000 direct and indirect jobs dependent on this sector. In this context, specialized training becomes increasingly important to ensure efficient and responsible production.
When we created Tecnova 17 years ago, one of the key areas we began to develop was training for talented individuals. Over time, we began to see that there was a need not only for training, but also for those leaders and individuals who wanted to be trained to have that knowledge endorsed by a university, with the scientific and technical rigor that universities provide. That’s why we saw that we could, from a technical standpoint, add the experience we had gained in the plants and join forces between the two parties, so at that point I returned to my alma mater to explore the possibility of a merger. Thus, five years ago, we created this product, which integrates all the knowledge needed to operate this industry in the best possible way,” says Paola Rocha, a chemical engineer who graduated from the UIS and is the manager of Tecnova SAS.
“This has meant that we have been able to train more than 200 students and people with this product, and 13 different countries have joined because it is a completely virtual product. This makes the product accessible to everyone and also provides an opportunity for them to network and build relationships,” said Paola Rocha.
For his part, Professor Gustavo Ramírez, director of the School of Chemical Engineering, emphasized that “the palm industry is one of the most important in the country and, moreover, has a very promising future because, first of all, it is agribusiness, it can be sustainable, and today it is very important for the region.” He added: “At the School of Chemical Engineering, we have been training chemical engineers for 77 years.”
For all these reasons, the School of Chemical Engineering at the Industrial University of Santander (UIS) is now accepting registrations for the Virtual Diploma in Efficient and Sustainable Palm Oil Production, which begins on September 19, 2025. This 100% virtual 108-hour diploma course offers official certification, limited places, and special discounts for groups.
