Between Monday, July 21 and Friday, July 25, a total of 1,473 new students of the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) will take the characterization tests organized by the Academic Excellence System (SEA) and Student Welfare.
These tests aim to identify possible risks in the biopsychosocial, cognitive, academic and health areas, in order to design action and prevention plans that favor the adaptation and good performance of students in their university life.
“The purpose of these tests is to detect factors that may affect academic performance, in order to intervene in a timely manner with accompaniment strategies,” says Claudia Milena Ortiz Gómez, coordinator of the SEA.
During the day, students will be evaluated in areas such as abstract reasoning, numerical, verbal, spatial aptitude and memory, among other key aspects. With this information, the University will be able to guide those who require it towards the SEA’s support programs, designed to strengthen their formative process and contribute to the achievement of their academic goals.
“The tests consist of a series of batteries that allow us to identify, early on, possible academic risks and offer the necessary accompaniment to minimize their impact during the career,” adds Ortiz Gómez.
In addition, students will undergo physical medical assessments, cardiovascular risk screenings and oral health check-ups, activities that will be carried out at the facilities of the Coordination of Integral Health and Psychosocial Development Services of Student Welfare.
“Through these evaluations we can recognize risk factors and characterize the general health status of students, in order to guide them towards our educational-preventive programs during their stay at the University,” highlights María Paula Hernández, coordinator of the Integral Health and Psychosocial Development Services of Bienestar Estudiantil.
With these actions, the UIS reaffirms its commitment to the integral wellbeing of its student community, providing tools that favor a successful university education from day one.
