For the second consecutive year, the UIS University Choir was awarded first place as Best University Choir in Colombia at the ASCUN Cultura National University Choir Festival, consolidating its position as one of the most outstanding choral groups in the country.
Under the direction of Professor Juan Manuel Hernández-Morales, a graduate and current faculty member of the UIS Bachelor of Music program, and recognized as one of the most prominent figures in choral conducting in Colombia, the UIS Choir once again demonstrated its artistic excellence, discipline, and commitment to university music education.
During the competition, the jury also gave special recognition to the soprano and tenor ensemble, highlighting their technical quality, cohesion, and interpretive sensitivity.
“It has been a great responsibility and honor to defend the title we won last year in Santa Marta. After celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Santander Choral Festival, being recognized once again as the best university choir in the country is consistent with the excellence of the Industrial University of Santander,” said Maestro Hernández-Morales.
In this edition, the UIS Choir competed among 11 outstanding choral groups from institutions such as the National University of Colombia, the University of Antioquia, the University of Magdalena, the University of Córdoba, the Technological University of Chocó, EAFIT University, the Pontifical Bolivarian University of Medellín, and ICESI University of Cali, among others.
This new recognition reaffirms the leadership of the UIS University Choir in the Colombian choral scene and its commitment to cultural outreach, academic excellence, and the artistic representation of the Industrial University of Santander at the national level.
