The Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) vibrated to the beat of music in its first session of “La Retreta”, an event that brought together the university community around the Symphonic Band, formed by students of the Bachelor’s Degree in Music. Directed by maestro Guillermo Gordillo, the main objective of this project is “to show the university community the work we do every day in the Bachelor of Music program,” he said.
For Gordillo Galán “this UIS retreta is planned to be performed once a month with different groups, and the next time it will be a choir also made up of undergraduate students”; at the same time, he stressed that it is important that not only UIS students but from other institutions or universities join the project.
The Retreta, which took place in a festive atmosphere, counted with the outstanding participation of soloist María Angélica Morales, who captivated the audience with her performance. The repertoire included works by composers such as Frank Erickson, John Barnes Chance, Ramirez and Valencia, offering a sample of the talent and dedication of the students.
“I feel that La Retreta and these types of activities are important, because they provide us with a cultural space, which serves us students as a way to get a better understanding of how we face an audience from a more professional profile, apart from our classmates who always listen to us play or the walls of a cubicle,” said Ana María Arrieta, member of the Symphonic Band and third semester student of Bachelor of Music.
