The Industrial University of Santander (UIS) participated virtually in the “Workshop on Validation and Improvement of Modules and Curricula in Higher Education: Costa Rica-Colombia Experiences,” held from December 2 to 12 in San José and Nicoya, as part of the SUREST Project, co-financed by the European Union.
During the meeting, representatives from Universidad de Barcelona, la Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica, la Università degli Studi di Cagliari, Universidad para la Cooperación Internacional, Fundación Universitaria Los Libertadores, la Unidad de Planificación y Desarrollo, and UIS, presented the progress made in the development of the project in each country, as partner universities.
The main objective of the workshop was to share the results obtained so far by each institution, as well as to gather the perceptions of the communities participating in the various academic and training experiences that SUREST is implementing in both Costa Rica and Colombia.

The UIS highlighted the progress made in the municipalities of Barbosa, Barrancabermeja, Málaga, and Socorro through the completion of diploma courses in Rural and Community Tourism Development, Sustainable Tourism Development: Application/Study of Sustainable Tourism Models: Current Trends, Tourism Innovation: Efficient Application of Innovation for Companies in the Tourism Sector, and Technologies Applied to the Tourism Sector. It also praised the implementation of the Laboratory for Innovation and Sustainable Tourism, located on the Bicentennial Campus of the headquarters in the Capital Comunera.
These training processes enabled 138 people to graduate, a positive result thanks to the project’s commitment to regional training, sustainable tourism, and strengthening local capacities.
Engineer Julio Alfonso Martínez Molina, coordinator of the UIS Socorro Campus, highlighted the impact of the project: “This workshop allowed us to compare experiences, strengthen the academic modules, and confirm that communities are recognizing SUREST as a real opportunity for transformation and sustainable development.”
