Eighth semester students of the Social Work program of the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) successfully completed the subject “Systematization of Experiences”, through the presentation of pedagogical proposals resulting from several months of work with social groups and foundations in the city, such as the Proinapsa Institute, the Halley research group and Sintraunicol, among others.
Professor Andrea Hernández, in charge of guiding this subject, highlighted the commitment, responsibility and effort demonstrated by the students throughout the semester.
“The course is developed in three main moments: a conceptual one, a methodological one and, finally, as a closure, we collectively decided to carry out an academic exercise of systematization with a group. Some of them internal to the university and others external. For the students it was a very valuable experience that allowed them to acquire significant knowledge from practice,” said Hernandez.

For their part, the students expressed their satisfaction at the successful completion of a subject that, although demanding, left them with great academic and personal learning.
“In this space we were able to share our experience with systematization, a participatory methodology that allows us to see academia beyond texts and articles. We saw proposals loaded with images, symbols and meanings that were born from collective work,” said Laura Becerra, a Social Work student.
Finally, they emphasized that what they learned will be key to face the professional practices, a stage that marks the final stretch of their university education.
“I was very interested in this approach because it is completely different from the usual. It will help us a lot in the future, since it teaches us to approach people not only from the intervention, but also from understanding and working together,” commented Juan Agudelo, also a Social Work student.
