As part of the architectural design process of the “Saravena University Campus” project, social managers and representatives of the consulting firm in charge of this initiative made a technical visit to the different campuses of the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) located in the Metropolitan Area of Bucaramanga. The tour included the central campus in Bucaramanga, the headquarters in Floridablanca and the Scientific Complex for Health and Life Sciences Research of the Faculty of Health.
“From the UIS we are pleased to accompany the visit made by the group of social managers of the department of Arauca and the engineers contractors of the government, where they have been touring our facilities, seeing the ecosystem in which our students advance classes, how the daily activity is developed for teachers also, so that they have that knowledge for what they are wanting to have that is their university campus, this time in the municipality of Saravena” said Jorge Villamizar Morales, UIS manager for the Territories.
During the visit, the participants learned first-hand about the architecture of the buildings, the functionality of the spaces and the technical, environmental and social criteria that guide the university infrastructure. Special attention was given to the institutional vision of dignifying the public, a principle of Rector Hernán Porras Díaz that translates into dignified, accessible, sustainable environments focused on the wellbeing of the university community.

For Héctor Javier Céspedes Zapata, technical director of the University Campus consortium, “getting to know the facilities and all the existing physical infrastructure is an important technical reference for the project being developed in the department of Arauca”.
The Saravena University Campus project is part of the UIS in Territories strategy, a commitment to expand the institutional presence in different regions of the country, with emphasis on those with the greatest needs, as is the case of the department of Arauca. This strategy reaffirms the University’s commitment to equity, inclusion and the right to quality public higher education.
For her part, the social manager Gloria Dilva Medina emphasized that “the university that we really wanted to be linked to the territory is the UIS, because firstly it has a population composition of our municipality and secondly because we know the educational role that they have played with the municipality of Bucaramanga and its surroundings, and we also wanted them to enter our territory to also play a very participatory role in our territory with Santander”.

The visit allowed the consulting team and the social managers to gather key architectural and functional references for the conceptualization of the new campus, which is projected as a modern, relevant and transforming space for the communities of eastern Colombia.
With this initiative, the UIS continues to consolidate itself as an institution committed to building a country from the territories, with a relevant educational offer and an infrastructure that responds to the realities and aspirations of the regions.
