A total of 1,857 first-year students at the Industrial University of Santander (UIS) participated in the start of the induction week for the 2026-1 academic period, held in the Luis A. Calvo Auditorium.

The day was marked by the presentation of the Academic Council, headed by Rector Hernán Porras Díaz, who introduced the members of the institution’s highest academic authority and explained their functions.

“I am very excited to begin my journey at the UIS; I am very motivated. This induction week is very important for us new students because we learn about the university environment and receive practical advice on how to stay motivated and disciplined so that we can complete our degrees,” said Emanuel Arismendi, a philosophy student.

Likewise, the academic vice-chancellor, Olga Mercedes Álvarez, gave a detailed presentation on the pedagogy, history, mission, and vision of the University, as well as the extracurricular activities, cultural groups, and sports teams that are part of university life. She also presented the various institutional tools and strategies aimed at supporting students in the success of their academic goals.

“I think it’s a great opportunity that the University has cultural and sports facilities. It’s important to have alternatives to break out of the academic routine and not always be between classrooms and midterms. I’m very happy and excited to start this stage and participate in the cultural options they offer us,” added Leidy Arias, a social work student.

The day ended with a guided tour of the Central Campus, led by members of the Academic Excellence System (SEA), during which students learned about the location of the buildings and the University’s landmarks.

“Our university’s infrastructure is very beautiful and has great architectural richness; that motivates us to study and achieve our goals,” said Daniel Méndez, a physics student.

This Tuesday, new members of the university community will participate in a new orientation day, which will feature presentations by representatives from Student Welfare and the SEA, as well as a welcome for parents.
