Researchers and medical residents from the Department of Internal Medicine at the Industrial University of Santander participated in the 7th Internal Medicine Residents’ Training Course, organized by the Colombian Association of Internal Medicine (ACMI) and the American College of Physicians (ACP), held in the city of Cali from May 23 to 25, 2026.
The UIS’s outstanding participation unfolded across three particularly significant academic events:
Inaugural and interactive conference. Resident physician Dr. Laura Marcela Rey Gómez and the graduate program coordinator, Dr. Boris Eduardo Vesga Angarita—a cardiologist, interventional cardiologist, and full professor at UIS—led the presentation of the interactive conference titled “The Power of the Heartbeat.”
Participation in the ACP’s Doctor’s Dilemma
For the first time, the Industrial University of Santander participated in the American College of Physicians’ Doctor’s Dilemma academic competition, conducted in English. The university was represented by resident physicians Dr. Julieth Alexandra Guzmán López and Dr. Johan Sebastián Eslava Roa.
Clinical case presentation.
Resident physician Dr. Karen Lorena Rangel Rivera presented a clinical case titled “Progressive Weakness in a Young Adult: A Red Flag in the Internist’s Diagnostic Process,” contributing to academic analysis and the strengthening of clinical competencies in internal medicine.
The participation of researchers from the UIS Department of Internal Medicine in this important national and international forum reaffirms the institution’s commitment to academic excellence, professional development, and the advancement of its graduate students in high-level scientific settings.
