The 34th edition of the Luis A. Calvo Colombian Music Festival will be held with a diverse and inclusive program with dance workshops such as the whirlwind and the currulao, a flute master class, concerts that travel through the Andes, the Caribbean, the Pacific and the Llano, and talks that address musical creation from spirituality, ancestry and the ecology of sound.

Among the concerts will be the participation of Los Rolling Ruanas, La Perla, the Flute and Guitar Duet and the Estudiantina de la Montaña Santandereana. UIS will also be represented by the artistic groups Macondo and Musical Expression.

In art there will be the inauguration of the exhibition ‘Stamps, portraits and experiences of San Gil, 1950-1981’, an exhibition that seeks to reflect the essence and identity of the people of San Gil, highlighting their traditions, customs and landscapes, from three thematic lines such as: religious life, politics and culture, all represented in a sample of 145 photographs.

“We will have different national and regional groups to explore the Colombian sounds of the different regions. The programming is extensive with workshops and exhibitions, in order to commemorate Colombian music. For us as Cultural Directorate it is important to continue making progress in exploration and cultural appropriation, that is why we want to highlight these rhythms and the memory of Luis A. Calvo,” said Juliana Costo, UIS cultural director.

There will also be ‘Tejiendo Culturas’ (Weaving Cultures), an artisan space in charge of the Cabildo Indígena Universitario UIS, which puts in dialogue the cosmovisions of the Inga, Misak and Wayuu peoples; as well as spaces for reflection such as ‘Sonidos del espíritu y la tierra’ and ‘Paren la bulla’ (Stop the noise), which make visible the vital connection between music, territory and spirituality.

The Luis A. Calvo Colombian Music Festival commemorates his life and work with the premise of generating spaces for the experience of folkloric artistic values, for their recognition and social appropriation as an identity value; it also intends to encourage the love for the richness of our musical depth.

This cultural event has the support of the Centro Cultural del Banco de la República Bucaramanga and allies in the different programming slots, such as the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Knowledge, Fundación Armonía, Fundación Canto por la Vida and the Archivo Oral de Memoria de las Víctimas AMOVI-UIS.
