The participation of the Industrial University of Santander (UIS) in the VI National Sports, Cultural, and Recreational Games of the University Professors’ Union Association (ASPU) was golden.
In the sporting arena, the UIS branch was crowned overall champion with a total of 25 medals: 15 gold, 5 silver, and 5 bronze. In terms of organization, the University also received widespread recognition for its impeccable logistics, earning the applause and gratitude of the more than 800 educators who competed in 19 disciplines.
“We are truly proud of the reception given to these VI National Games, which were attended by 20 delegations in Bucaramanga. The teachers are very impressed with the conditions offered by the UIS. They are happy to be in Santander and we are proud to receive such positive feedback,” said Eugenio Cueto, president of ASPU UIS Section.
In sports, the UIS Branch won first place in the overall medal count. In disciplines such as athletics, billiards, bowling, swimming, tennis, futsal, and basketball, local representatives achieved outstanding results that took them to the top step of the podium.
Second place went to the University of Pamplona and third place to the University of La Guajira.

“We are very happy to achieve this title in a space that allows us teachers to share, integrate, and enjoy ourselves in a healthy way with colleagues from all over the country,” said William Castro, UIS professor.
The visiting delegations highlighted the excellent organization and hospitality of the UIS administration and the professors who are members of the UIS Section of ASPU, who spent months planning every detail to ensure the success of the event.
“We are very grateful to the UIS for promoting these tournaments that encourage physical activity, sports, and healthy lifestyle habits, which are fundamental to the long-term well-being of students, teachers, and administrators,” said Jonathan Larrota, professor at the University of Pamplona.
Visitors also highlighted the infrastructure and beauty of the Central Campus, especially its sports facilities.
“I really loved the University, especially the climate, the pleasant atmosphere, the friendly people, and, in particular, the sports area. I thought it was excellent,” said Rosa Rodríguez, a professor at the University of La Guajira.
