Entrepreneurs in Socorro: four decades of developing ideas for growth and development

Profesores, estudiantes y directivos, participaron de la jornada de emprendedores

Organic coffee, Creole eggs, coffee jam, textiles, makeup and skin care, citrus-based wines and hydroponic crops, among others, were some of the business proposals that were presented during the 42nd edition of the academic and scientific event Emprendedores.

In this edition, students of the Business Management, Agroindustrial Administration and Pharmacy Regency Technology programs of the Institute of Regional Projection and Distance Education, IPRED, presented their business initiatives to the community of Socorrana, a space that highlighted creativity and innovation.

Engineer Julio Alfonso Martínez Molina, Coordinator of the UIS Socorro Campus, said that “these ideas have been taking shape since the first semester, which allows us to recognize proposals oriented to agribusiness, agribusiness, the use of crops, gastronomic offerings, the management of minor and major species, and the development of products derived from fruits, among others. We are excited to see how these initiatives mark the beginning of a life project that will undoubtedly have a promising future.”

The projects aroused great interest among the attendees not only for their innovative nature, but also for the sustainable approach and growth potential they demonstrated. These initiatives are the result of the joint work between students, teachers and tutors, who have accompanied each stage of the formative and creative process.

“The university has given me a decisive impulse and the necessary tools to give a solid base to a business idea born in our coffee farm El Bambú. This initiative arose after the death of my father, at which time I assumed the responsibility of leading the farm, getting to know the products in depth and looking for ways to add value to them. This is how my brand was born: Cafeterito”, said Cristian Velásquez, student of Agroindustrial Administration, to the UIS.

From the UIS Socorro campus we proudly celebrate the commitment, dedication and talent of those who participated in this academic and entrepreneurial journey. The UIS Socorro Campus continues to promote entrepreneurship with social sense and vision of the future.
