If your aspiration is to pursue a doctorate or a research stay in Germany, the External Relations Department of the Universidad Industrial de Santander UIS informs that the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) has three open calls for scholarships that cover all travel expenses, living expenses and medical insurance. These scholarships, which apply to all areas of knowledge and to any university or research center in Germany, represent an invaluable opportunity for professionals from Colombia.
It is essential to bear in mind that, although these calls for applications close this year, those selected will begin their studies or stays in 2026. In addition, an important and differentiating detail of the DAAD scholarships is that none of the calls for applications has an age limit.
The three available calls for applications are listed below:
1. “Doctoral Programmes in Germany”
This program is aimed at those who wish to pursue a full doctoral degree in Germany with a duration of 3 to 4 years. The most important requirement is that applicants must be master’s degree graduates of no more than six years.

2. Bi-nationally Supervised Doctoral Degrees / Cotutelle Program
This call offers fellowships for doctoral research stays in Germany under bi-national supervision or a cotutelle agreement, with a duration of 7 to 24 months.
Key requirement: Interested applicants must already be pursuing a doctoral degree at a university in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru or Venezuela. The start date of the doctoral program must not be more than three years at the time of application.

3. Research Grants in Germany Program
This program offers grants for research stays in Germany, covering both doctoral (2 to 12 months) and postdoctoral (2 to 6 months) stays.
For doctoral stays, candidates must be pursuing a doctoral degree at a university in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru or Venezuela. The start date of the doctoral program must not be more than three years prior to the closing date of the call for applications.
For postdoctoral stays, candidates must already hold a doctoral degree. They must not have completed their doctoral degree more than four years ago at the closing date of the call.
Closing dates: This call has two application dates, allowing the candidate to choose the desired start date of his/her stay:
Wednesday, September 3, 2025, for stays from May 2026 onwards.
Wednesday, March 11, 2026, for stays starting in September 2026.
