The Board of Directors of the University Professors Union Association (ASPU) at the Industrial University of Santander (UIS) officially launched the 6th National Sports and Recreation Games, which will take place on the Central Campus from October 9 to 12. The event will bring together more than 500 teachers from public universities across the country in Bucaramanga, who will participate in various individual and team sports.
“This launch is just the beginning. We are promoting a Games in which we expect hundreds of professors to participate, and we are working to ensure that they leave with the best impression of the UIS and Bucaramanga,” said Eugenio Cueto Barragán, president of ASPU-UIS Branch.
The organizers emphasized that this effort not only brings teachers together around sports and recreation, but also promotes the positioning of the UIS and the development of the tourism and hotel sector in Santander.

“Our intention has always been to give the UIS a boost and keep it where it deserves to be, among the best universities in the country. The delegations will enjoy our facilities and sports venues, which are wonderful. We are sure that everyone will leave satisfied after experiencing these Games,” added Cueto Barragán.
For some of the teachers who participated in the creation of this initiative, it is gratifying to see how the competition is now in its sixth edition at a university that is committed to the well-being and recreation of its teachers.
“These Games were born in Cartagena, where we held the first three editions. We wanted a space for cultural, recreational, and sporting exchange, something that we professors needed. We hope that the UIS will shine, as other branches have done,” said William Pérez Cantillo, president of ASPU-Seccional Universidad de Cartagena.
For their part, visitors highlighted the quality of the university facilities and celebrated the fact that the dream of bringing the National Games to eastern Colombia is now a reality.
“This is my first time visiting the UIS, and I think it’s spectacular: a large, beautiful campus with high-level sports facilities. These spaces are motivating for teachers, and we can’t wait for the Games to begin,” said William Mora, spokesperson for ASPU-Seccional Universidad de Pamplona.
