The external evaluation visit by Lina Valero Viancha, the academic representative appointed by the National Accreditation Council (CNA), began in the Rector’s Council Chamber at the Industrial University of Santander, with the aim of renewing the accreditation of the Specialization in Ophthalmology program.
This process demonstrates the University’s ongoing commitment to academic quality and the training of highly competent professionals capable of transforming the country’s visual health.
Dr. Alejandro Tello Hernández, program coordinator, emphasized that this evaluation “is a valuable opportunity to reassess the strengths, but also the alternatives and possibilities for improvement of the programs.” He also emphasized that the specialization has achieved national and international recognition, as evidenced by the performance of its graduates, who “are very successful in the workplace and in the academic and research fields.”
For Dr. Tello, the CNA visit is an opportunity for reflection and institutional learning: “This type of review with someone from outside helps us explore ways to strengthen the program, so it is a great opportunity that we value and take advantage of.”

In light of the results of the evaluation visit, Dr. Tello expressed optimism and confidence: “We are confident that we are doing a good job. We have received positive feedback and look forward to innovative ideas to strengthen our program and continue improving.”
He also emphasized that ophthalmology training at UIS transcends the technical realm: “We are no longer just training specialists who know a lot about the subject, but well-rounded human beings who have strengthened all areas of their lives.”
Finally, he highlighted the leading role of the program’s graduates in strengthening visual health in Colombia: “Our graduates have a direct impact on patient care, with very good results that are widely recognized in the country, and they also help to convey the spirit of service that characterizes ophthalmology.”

For Dr. Tello, the CNA visit is an opportunity for reflection and institutional learning: “This type of review with someone from outside helps us explore ways to strengthen the program, so it is a great opportunity that we value and take advantage of.”
With peer review processes such as this one, which on this occasion will continue until next Friday, the UIS consolidates its academic leadership and its commitment to excellence, research, and the training of professionals who look to the future with vision, science, and human values.
