In a series of key meetings held on February 23 and 24, departmental authorities and academic representatives outlined a roadmap that could mark a turning point in access to higher education and regional innovation.
Delegates from the Gobernación de Arauca and the university’s territorial manager, Jorge Villamizar, consolidated a joint agenda focused on research, development, and innovation. The goal: to promote projects within the ACTeI calls of the Sistema General de Regalías (bienniums 47 and 48), with emphasis on food sovereignty and the sustainable use of biodiversity.
The agenda continued on Tuesday the 24th with a meeting led by Governor Renson Martínez, accompanied by his government team. There, the intention to strengthen the UIS’s institutional presence in the department was reaffirmed, where academic programs are already operating and expansion of the academic offer is planned.
According to what was discussed, the strategic step is to move forward with the creation of a permanent branch campus that will allow more young people to study without leaving the region, a long-standing demand in the area.
Countdown to the Saravena campus
These meetings serve as a prelude to the groundbreaking ceremony for the first phase of the university campus in Saravena, scheduled for Friday, February 27, on the site known as Parque de la Vida.
The future infrastructure is envisioned as a knowledge hub that will not only expand educational coverage but also drive scientific projects aimed at territorial development.
With this institutional coordination, Arauca seeks to position itself as a benchmark in innovation applied to its productive and environmental realities, betting on higher education as a driver of social and economic transformation.
