This May 10, the Specialized Health Unit of the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UISALUD) joins the commemoration of World Lupus Day, a date dedicated to raising awareness of this complex autoimmune disease.
Lupus can impact various parts of the body, such as the skin, joints, kidneys, heart and other vital organs. According to the Lupus Foundation of America, by 2025, it is estimated that more than five million people will be living with some form of lupus globally. In addition, approximately 90% of diagnosed cases are in women, mostly between the ages of 15 and 44.
This disease presents multiple challenges, as its symptoms vary considerably among patients, making it difficult to diagnose and treat in a timely manner. Therefore, it is essential to continue strengthening medical research, as well as generating social awareness of the difficulties faced by those living with lupus.
At UISALUD we reiterate our commitment to comprehensive, humanized and quality care for patients with this condition. Our multidisciplinary team works every day to offer medical, emotional and educational support that contributes to the well-being of each affected person.
On World Lupus Day, we invite the entire university community to join this cause. With empathy, knowledge and solidarity, we can contribute to improve the lives of those who face lupus with courage.
