During the commemoration of World Heart Day, the Specialized Health Unit of the Industrial University of Santander, UISALUD, calls on all its users to strengthen healthy lifestyle habits and prevent cardiovascular diseases, considered the leading cause of death worldwide.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), cardiovascular disease claims nearly 17.9 million lives each year, accounting for more than four out of five deaths from coronary heart disease and stroke. One in three deaths occurs prematurely, in people under the age of 70.
In the case of Colombia, the most recent report from the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE, 2024) showed that cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death in the country, with 73,918 deaths, equivalent to 27% of all registered deaths. On average, eight Colombians lose their lives every hour from this cause.
In order to address this issue, UISALUD has been developing the “De todo corazón” (With All My Heart) program, a strategy aimed at promoting self-care and the prevention of cardiovascular disease. Through educational activities, support spaces, and the implementation of health circuits, users can identify risk factors, learn healthy lifestyle practices, and adopt measures that help minimize the symptoms and complications associated with these pathologies.
The Unit invites its users to actively participate in cardiovascular prevention circuits, spaces designed to promote physical exercise, healthy eating, weight control, stress management, and early detection of risk factors in order to encourage healthy lifestyles and ensure a better quality of life.
