
According to the latest results of the U-Sapiens 2026-1 Ranking, UIS has established itself as one of Colombia’s top research universities.
The Universidad Industrial de Santander continues to strengthen its position as a leading research institution in the country, ranking sixth nationwide in the latest edition of the U-Sapiens Ranking 2026-1, published by Sapiens Research.
This ranking, one of Colombia’s most recognized benchmarks for evaluating research performance in higher education, measures indicators such as indexed academic journals, active master’s and doctoral programs, and categorized research groups.
The result represents a significant improvement for UIS, which ranked seventh in the previous edition (2025-2), moving up one position and confirming its steady growth in scientific production and graduate-level education.


UIS among the best universities in research
This achievement is supported by a strong research ecosystem. UIS currently has 100 research groups recognized by MinCiencias, 345 researchers, and 125 research seedbeds, reflecting a dynamic academic community committed to knowledge generation.
In terms of innovation and technology transfer, the university holds 90 national patents and 17 international patents, demonstrating its ability to translate research into impactful solutions.
Additionally, UIS has developed advanced scientific infrastructure, including the Guatiguará Technology Park, which features nine central laboratories and two buildings dedicated to science and technology-based business management, strengthening collaboration between academia, industry, and government.
With this result, the Universidad Industrial de Santander reaffirms its role as a national leader in research, backed by strong scientific capabilities, human talent, and infrastructure that drive its continued growth and contribution to the country’s development.
