Nearly 200 children from the Dámaso Zapata Technical Educational Institution experienced a special afternoon thanks to the first Literary Festival: The City of Books, in which students from the Primary School Literature course encouraged reading in a playful and creative way among the little ones.

There the elementary school children discovered and learned more about the works of Matilda, Peter Pan, Wonka, The Fox and the Hound, Winnie Pooh, among other classics.

“I find this activity very interesting because here we learn many things such as understanding poems and stories. I feel happy and comfortable because I like to read fantasy stories,” said Sara Valentina, a fourth grade student.

The activity was held on the second floor of the old Human Sciences building, so this was also a novel experience for the children, as they were received by UIS students, who represented characters from literary stories.

“It is a great opportunity for us as students to have this kind of spaces because it allows us to have a more direct practice with the children and also to see how they learn and at the same time have fun,” said Dayana Rocío Rodríguez Olave, a student of Basic Primary Education.

The event ended with smiles from the university students and the children, who learned in their own way and got closer to reading.
