The UIS Student Wellbeing Satellite Library has reopened its space with a renewed collection of more than 170 books specializing in mental health. Located on the fourth floor of Student Wellbeing Services, the library aims to become a space for consultation, learning, and connection for members of the university community.
The library will be open Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., to UIS students and administrative staff. Those wishing to access the books and materials must present their institutional ID, either in physical or digital format. Users may borrow one item at a time for a maximum period of 15 calendar days.
A Collection Organized to Connect with Readers
The new collection is organized into four categories designed to introduce readers to different topics related to wellbeing and personal growth. The first, “Rediscover Your Inner World”, brings together materials on emotions, emotional management, and introspection.
The second category, “When the Mind Won’t Stop”, addresses topics related to love and the development of healthy habits. Meanwhile, “Feeling Love Again” focuses on personal development and tools that encourage reflection on different aspects of everyday life.
Finally, “Taking Care of Yourself Matters Too” brings together books on practical philosophy and Stoicism, inviting readers to find tools for self-care and reflection through reading.

A Library That Invites Readers to “Answer the Call”
The initiative also incorporates a creative reading-promotion strategy built around the concept of a phone call. The idea begins with a question: Will you answer the call of the book?
The initiative seeks to present books in a different way and spark students’ curiosity, encouraging them to explore the collection. Students and student assistants are involved in this process, continuously working on initiatives to promote reading and strengthen the use of the space.
“We want to invite them not only to use the books, but also to request more. We want to expand this collection, make it dynamic, and ensure that it serves the students. To achieve this, the Directorate implements different strategies, publishes feedback boxes on social media, and throughout the semester we will share information on how students can submit requests so that we can purchase the books they are interested in,” highlighted Sonia Cristina Gamboa Sarmiento, Director of UIS Libraries.
In this way, UIS is strengthening a space that connects reading with wellbeing and provides students and administrative staff with tools to learn, reflect, and take care of themselves.
