UIS resident wins third place in research at the III HUS Teaching and Innovation Forum

Premiación durante el foro HUS

María Camila Velandia Avendaño, a third-year UIS pediatrics resident and member of the PAIDOS research group, won third place in the poster category for her research project entitled “Clinical, sociodemographic, and nutritional characterization of overweight or obese children between the ages of 2 and 12 treated at the Santander University Hospital.” as part of the III HUS Teaching, Research, and Innovation Forum.

This study arose in response to the increasing rates of childhood overweight and obesity. For this reason, it sought to characterize overweight children in terms of their sociodemographics, diet, sedentary lifestyle, and physical activity.

The research was conducted with the participation of Dr. Víctor Clemente Mendoza, director; Stefania Roca López, co-director; and Sergio Serrano Gómez, epidemiological advisor.

The event, held virtually and in person, was aimed at all UIS students, doctors, specialists, nursing staff, and health sector workers, as well as members of the HUS community.
