UIS researchers present results of pneumonia study

Residentes durante el evento en Estados Unidos

Juan David Berlinghieri and Natalia Rodríguez, third-year residents in Internal Medicine, participated in IDWeek 2025, held in Atlanta, United States.

The researchers participated by presenting a poster entitled “Ventilator-associated pneumonia caused by Gram-negative microorganisms in intensive care units of a tertiary hospital in northeastern Colombia. Case description and analysis of risk factors from a six-year retrospective cohort.”

The objective of the study was to characterize a population of patients with ventilator-associated pneumonia and analyze the risk factors associated with higher mortality.

Klebsiella and Pseudomonas were the most frequently isolated pathogens with a carbapenemase expression of 31.7%, and the factors associated with higher mortality were age, SOFA score, infection with carbapenemase-producing bacteria, and the use of vasopressors.

These results form the basis for further research. Congratulations to the researchers!
