The Industrial University of Santander (UIS) continues to strengthen its international recognition thanks to the impact of its graduates on global stages. A notable example is Jhon Alexander Montoya Rivillas, a graduate of the Bacteriology and Clinical Laboratory program in 2003, who today stands out as a key figure in public health in Canada.
After completing his professional training in Colombia, Montoya Rivillas directed his career toward community health and health management. His interest in broadening his horizons led him to pursue a master’s degree in Public Health in Canada, where he developed a strategic vision supported by a strong scientific background.
Currently, the UIS graduate serves as Deputy Director of Public Health at the Centre Régional de la Santé et des Services Sociaux de la Baie-James, based in Chibougamau. In this role, he leads key initiatives focused on disease prevention and the strengthening of social services in one of the largest and most strategic regions of the North American country.
His work has been recognized for his ability to adapt to complex contexts and for driving social transformation processes in highly demanding environments. This achievement not only highlights his individual career path but also reflects the academic quality and international reach of UIS.
With stories like this, UIS reaffirms its commitment to training professionals capable of making a positive global impact, contributing through science and management to the well-being of communities and upholding Colombia’s name abroad.
