For three days, the Industrial University of Santander (UIS) is undergoing an external follow-up audit of its Quality Management System (QMS) under the ISO 9001:2015 standard, with the novelty of extending its scope to the Specialized Health Unit (UISALUD). The visit is being conducted by the Colombian Institute of Technical Standards and Certification (Icontec).

Juliana Peña Ayala, coordinator of the UIS Quality Management System, explained that the audit seeks to monitor compliance with the standards of the norm and, in addition, to evaluate the incorporation of UISALUD within the institutional certification. “The purpose of the visit is to review the specialized health unit in order to expand the scope of certification to this department,” she said.

For his part, Óscar Julián Porras, lead auditor at Icontec, highlighted that the university is embarking on a key process: “Within the follow-up audit, the new development is the expansion of the scope for UISALUD, which now includes all the services provided by this unit within the institution.”

The administrative vice-rector, Gerardo Latorre Bayona, underscored the importance of this external review as an exercise in continuous improvement. “This process is important for the university because it provides an external perspective that helps us strengthen our procedures, ensuring that quality remains paramount and that support and mission-critical services have an impact on the well-being of society in general,” he said.

With this exercise, the UIS reaffirms its commitment to excellence in administrative, academic, and service management, confirming quality as a fundamental pillar of its institutional development.
