The Language Institute of the Industrial University of Santander (UIS) led an important working group to review the implementation of a bilingualism agreement, a key initiative for strengthening education in the municipality. The meeting, which took place in the Institute’s modern facilities, was attended by representatives of the Floridablanca Mayor’s Office.
The meeting brought together the Secretary of Education of Floridablanca, Diego Fernando Jaimes Porras, and María Angélica Arenas, a bilingualism professional from the municipality. On behalf of the UIS, the director of the Language Institute, Laura Dueñas, and her teaching team presented the results and schedule of activities carried out to date.
Diego Jaimes, Floridablanca’s Secretary of Education, expressed his satisfaction with the program’s progress: “We have students who are training at level A1 in a second communication skill, which is English. Today, the students are continuing to make progress. We are also training high school teachers, so we are very happy with the support we have received from the UIS Language Institute.”

The agreement aims to improve communication skills in a second language in educational institutions in Floridablanca through teacher training and the creation of curricula tailored to the needs of the region.
Laura Cristina Dueñas, director of the UIS Language Institute, emphasized the importance of inter-institutional collaboration. “The coordination between the university, business, and government is one of the fundamental pillars of the university’s outreach and social responsibility. By joining forces, we can achieve important goals in the development plans of both the municipality and the university.”
The director also highlighted the role of the Chamber of Commerce in coordinating these efforts, which allows the initiative to reach more students. “This is one of the initiatives we have at the Language Institute, and it fully supports the integration of bilingualism in our country and also helps all students in public schools in the municipality of Floridablanca to become citizens of the world,” added Dueñas.
The next phases of the project are expected to be announced in the coming weeks, which will consolidate Floridablanca as a benchmark in the promotion of bilingualism at the regional level.
