UIS and CIEMAT open doors to international academic mobility

Meeting of Antonio Moreno García with the UIS Office of External Relations.

The Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) received the welcome visit of Antonio David Moreno García, a scientist from the Energy, Environmental and Technological Research Center (CIEMAT) of Spain. The purpose of his stay was to strengthen institutional cooperation and promote the academic mobility of students and teachers through new agreements.

“My visit, as an international expert in the ICETEX program, seeks to establish collaborative ties with the UIS to develop bioprocesses for waste transformation. To tell the truth, we have had very good feelings and we believe that a fruitful cooperation framework can emerge,” said Moreno Garcia.

After his tour, the researcher expressed a very positive impression of the university and expressed his optimism regarding the consolidation of a constant flow of academic mobility.

“I consider that there are funding possibilities that will make it possible to make it happen. I believe that very soon we will see UIS students in Spain, either in the Department of Energy or in other areas of CIEMAT, all in the short term,” he stressed.

Liliana del Pilar Castro Molano, director of the UIS Office of External Relations, who led the meeting with the visitor, emphasized that this approach opens multiple extension opportunities for the university community.

“The idea is to formalize cooperation agreements that will allow students from programs such as Chemistry, Biology and Microbiology to carry out their internships at CIEMAT, as well as enable research stays for our teachers,” explained Castro Molano.

Finally, Moreno García praised the UIS campus after touring classrooms, laboratories and university welfare spaces. “I loved the park with the lake and its turtles, the PRO Welfare building, whose cafeteria offers a spectacular view, and the renovated library, which is impressive,” he concluded.
