UIS 670 AM, Tradition That Unites Us, celebrates 24 years on air this May 22, strengthening its position as one of Santander’s most representative university and cultural radio stations and as a space dedicated to connecting knowledge, culture, and territory through radio.
For more than two decades, the station has accompanied generations of listeners with informative, cultural, educational, and entertainment content, reaffirming the commitment of the Industrial University of Santander to public communication and access to knowledge.
A Story Born from the Growth of UIS’s Radio Broadcasting Project

The history of UIS 670 AM is closely connected to the strengthening of the university’s broadcasting project.
In May 2000, the Government of Santander, under the administration of Miguel Jesús Arenas Prada, transferred the former Hotel Bucarica facilities to the Industrial University of Santander as payment in kind. This milestone opened a new institutional chapter and created opportunities to expand academic, cultural, and communication initiatives.
During the administration of Rector Jorge Gómez Duarte, UIS Bucarica emerged as a strategic space for institutional development and became the new home for the university’s radio project, allowing the relocation of UIS Estéreo and opening the path for the growth of the university’s broadcasting system.
From Hotel Bucarica to the Multifunctional Radio Center
On the building’s third floor, a dedicated space for radio production and broadcasting was created.
Three radio booths were installed for UIS AM, UIS Estéreo, and the production studio, along with administrative offices and the UIS Sound Archive, forming what became known as the Multifunctional Center for the University Radio Stations.
This facility strengthened university radio production and established an environment designed to create, preserve, and share audio content with the community.
The Beginning of Broadcasting on 670 kHz and the Birth of a University Signal
On May 22, 2002, after meeting all legal and technical requirements, UIS AM officially began broadcasting on 670 kHz.
The station launched with 18 hours of daily programming, built around a vision that combined information, culture, and the dissemination of knowledge from a public university perspective.
Over time, the signal evolved into a permanent service and today broadcasts 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Programming that Connects Knowledge, Culture and Territory
Since its earliest years, UIS 670 AM has developed content aimed at bringing the university closer to society.
Its schedule includes news and informational programs that showcase the fulfillment of the university’s core missions of teaching, research, and outreach, produced by the journalistic team within the Communications Office.
These programs are complemented by cultural, sports, legal, health, educational, and entertainment content that enrich public dialogue and broaden access to knowledge.
Producers, Content and a Radio Station Built by Many Voices
One of the defining features of the station has been the contribution of internal and external producers who have supported programming development on a voluntary basis.
Professors, staff members, specialists, community contributors, and radio creators have transformed the station into an open platform for sharing knowledge, encouraging dialogue, and amplifying topics of public interest.
Through this collective effort, UIS 670 AM has become a meeting point for diverse voices and perspectives.
On Air 24 Hours a Day: The Evolution of a Station Serving the Community
More than a frequency, UIS 670 AM has become a place where listeners gather to learn, remember, reflect, and discover new stories.
Technological transformation, changing listening habits, and evolving audiences have driven the station’s growth while preserving its original purpose: delivering quality content with a public and educational mission.

Tradition That Unites Us: The New Identity of UIS 670 AM
In 2025, the station introduced its new slogan: “Tradition That Unites Us”, a concept that celebrates the value of what remains in collective memory, culture as a source of identity, and knowledge as a force that enriches society.
This identity reflects a vision of tradition not as something static, but as a living legacy that evolves, connects generations, and remains meaningful over time.
