The central campus of the Industrial University of Santander (UIS) will be the venue for the Sixth Edition of the National Sports, Cultural, and Recreational Games of the University Professors’ Union Association (ASPU), which will take place from October 9 to 12, 2025.
“We are very happy because we will be welcoming our colleagues from different public universities in Colombia. We expect around 40 delegations to visit the city and our university,” said Eugenio Cueto Barragán, president of the ASPU Board of Directors, UIS section.
In this edition, teachers from public higher education institutions across the country will compete in individual and group sports disciplines that will take place in the modern facilities of the UIS. Likewise, the aim is to preserve Colombian traditions through the inclusion of indigenous games.
“We want to live up to previous editions. We will have sports such as soccer, futsal, basketball, volleyball, tennis, and table tennis, among others. In addition, there will be traditional games such as bolo and tejo, and innovations such as the Desafío Comunero, which includes competitions in spinning tops, coca, and turra,” explained Cueto Barragán.
ASPU-UIS is proud to host the event, as it not only strengthens the sense of community among teachers, but also promotes the university and Bucaramanga as academic, cultural, and tourist destinations.
“Many participants from previous editions asked for the UIS to be the venue so they could see the transformation of the university up close, especially in its sports facilities. In addition, these visits allow the UIS to continue consolidating its position as one of the best universities in the country,” said Víctor Julio Dallos Hernández, vice president of the UIS section of ASPU.
The members of ASPU-UIS emphasized that this event would not have been possible without the support of the UIS administration, which backed the proposal with enthusiasm, resources, and institutional support.
“We owe all this to the university’s management. Without their cultural, financial, and moral support, this project would not have been possible,” added Dallos Hernández.
The staging of these games demonstrates the UIS’s commitment to the well-being of its professors, while also making an important contribution to positioning the region as a tourist and academic destination in the country.
