Santander has the first Psychiatry program in eastern Colombia. In a context in which Colombia and the world continue to face the aftermath of the pandemic and its impact on the mental health of the population, the Industrial University of Santander (UIS) is taking a decisive step to provide real and sustainable solutions to this problem. The Ministry of National Education granted, through Resolution 022684 of November 25, 2025, the qualified registration for the Specialization in Psychiatry, authorizing its operation for seven years.
The new Specialization, created by Academic Council Agreement No. 314 of September 19, 2023, will be offered in person in Bucaramanga and will have 167 academic credits, annual admission, an estimated duration of three years, and a first group of eight students. Its launch represents a strategic academic response to the contemporary challenges left by the pandemic and a commitment to strengthening the country’s health system.
“We will have the opportunity to train our graduates and reduce the gaps that exist in terms of professionals to treat this type of mental disorder,” said Jorge Andrés Niño, director of the Department of Mental Health.

Program costs
This program is self-financed, so enrollment and tuition are paid for with the student’s own resources. Academic continuity depends on the timely payment of the corresponding fees. For each semester, the tuition and academic fees amount to 391.80 UVT (Transaction Value Unit), which corresponds to registration fees (13.68 UVT) and academic fees (378.12 UVT). These amounts are paid in pesos according to the current UVT and may be adjusted in accordance with applicable regulations.
Online registration requirements

Additional enrollment requirement
Applicants who are admitted must meet the requirements set forth in Article 154 of the General Regulations for Postgraduate Studies, which was added as follows: those admitted to medical-surgical specializations must submit all documents proving, in accordance with current legislation, that they meet the requirements to practice medicine in the national territory. In the event that, after the deadline for academic enrollment has passed, the admitted applicant does not provide the appropriate documents to prove compliance with the requirement referred to in this paragraph, that place will be reassigned to the applicant who obtained the next highest score (Agreement No. 186 of August 28, 2015).
