With a heartfelt ceremony, the Faculty of Health and the School of Medicine welcomed back graduates who said “see you later” to the institution 40 years ago.

As part of the extensive program proposed by the group of graduates, professors from that era were invited to recall their time at the university, sharing anecdotes, experiences, and lessons learned that they remember fondly today. Among the educators, the participation of Dr. Jorge Gómez Duarte, a professor at the time and former UIS rector, stood out.

During this emotional gathering, classmates who are no longer with us were remembered, the work of the professors was praised, the medical oath was renewed, and diplomas and pins of recognition were presented to the 44 UIS doctors.

“Congratulations to you, doctors celebrating 40 years since graduation. It is an extraordinary achievement that deserves recognition and celebration. I must highlight the dedication, experience, and positive impact you have had on the lives of your patients, families, and society over these four decades. Your commitment to the profession, your invaluable contribution to health and the well-being of the community, and the wisdom you have accumulated over time are noteworthy,” said Dr. Jürg Niederbacher, dean of the Faculty of Health.

Dr. Luis Miguel Sosa Ávila, director of the School of Medicine, was responsible for renewing the medical oath and giving a speech encouraging students to be like the eagle, which after a certain period of time renews itself to come back better.

In turn, Dr. Jesús Solier Insuasty Enríquez, a 1985 medical school graduate and speaker at the event, highlighted a recipe from Harvard University for living better: “have friends.” He emphasized the importance of strong and meaningful social relationships and of forgiving quickly when necessary.

The event continued with a tour of the Scientific Complex facilities and a gathering. Afterward, the graduates visited the central campus and gathered for a farewell at La Perla, the alumni house.
