The Industrial University of Santander (UIS) commemorated four decades of the School of Industrial Design, a cradle of innovation that has trained generations of designers committed to transforming their environment through creative thinking.

During the event, tribute was paid to Professor Julio César Pinillos Fonseca, founder and key figure in the history of design at the UIS, who passed away this year and who, through this event, was honored for his visionary spirit, which continues to inspire the academic community.

“Today we are holding this commemorative event and, among other things, paying tribute to the work of Julio César Pinillos, a professor whom we remember with great respect and affection. As a son of this School, I am truly proud; this is a commemoration that fills me with life. These are the first 40 years, and we have a long way to go to take industrial design in Colombia far,” said Luis Eduardo Bautista, director of the School of Industrial Design.

The spirit of celebration was also reflected in the words of the students, who recognized the importance of belonging to a community that encourages expression and creativity. “It’s incredible to feel that you are part of something like this. For me, being part of this School means creating, designing, and feeling free to express myself as I want,” said Juan Sebastián Ortiz, a fourth-semester student.

Amid applause, memories, and projections for the future, the UIS reaffirmed its commitment to academic excellence and to continuing to strengthen a School that has left its mark on the history of Colombian design.
