Professors Laura Andrea Rodríguez Villamizar and Diana Katherine Sandoval Martínez have taken over as heads of the Public Health and Pathology departments, respectively.
The former has extensive experience in the field of environmental health research, where she has conducted epidemiological studies on the role of environmental exposures, mainly air pollution and heavy metals, on human health.
She previously served as Director of Research and Extension at the Faculty of Health and has been at the Industrial University of Santander for 15 years.
“I am very proud to have been appointed to this position as head of the department to which I have belonged for 15 years. We have a management team with many academic, research, and outreach perspectives, which I am sure we will carry forward with the full support of my colleagues,” said Rodríguez Villamizar.

The new director of the Department of Pathology is Diana Katherine Sandoval Martínez, a UIS graduate with advanced studies in perinatal and placental pathology. She also has notable experience at the Santander University Hospital.
“This appointment is part of my personal growth. I am eager to contribute to the growth of the Department and the School of Medicine, with the intention of promoting quality improvement and other objectives,” said Sandoval Martínez.
The appointees were sworn in by Olga Álvarez Ojeda, academic vice-rector, and were accompanied by colleagues and friends from the Faculty of Health.
