Teaching experiences inspire in the XII Colloquium on Undergraduate Practice in Mathematics UIS

“UIS Mathematics students are considered to have a high academic level, they are very good professionals… they have a very solid comprehensive and mathematical training”. This is how Ronald Paternina, director of the School of Mathematics at the Universidad Industrial de Santander, describes the mark left by future mathematics graduates in the educational institutions where they carry out their internships.

The statement was made during the XII Colloquium of Mathematics Undergraduate Practice, an event that brought together students to share their pedagogical experiences in official schools. The Aula Máxima de Ciencias was the stage for deep reflections on the teaching of mathematics, not only as content, but also as a transforming experience.

“The twelfth colloquium of practice is an event where undergraduate students in mathematics present their experiences of teaching practice in official secondary schools,” explained Paternina.

Throughout the day, the participants described their relationship with the students, the methodologies used, the topics addressed and the lessons learned during their training process in real contexts.

“There they explain how it went, what methodology they used, how they dealt with the students, what topics they studied and what their experience was like, and reflect on it,” added the director, highlighting the value of this space as a tool for professional and personal growth.

Beyond an academic activity, the colloquium is consolidated as a living testimony of the commitment of the UIS with a quality mathematics education, inclusive and with human sense. An event where figures, theorems and formulas are intertwined with real stories, and where the teaching vocation comes alive in every shared word.
