In an atmosphere of enthusiasm, creativity and learning, the Mathematics Education Research Group of the Universidad Industrial de Santander (EDUMAT-UIS) held last Saturday, May 24, the XXV Annual Meeting of Students of the Mathematical Calendar project, a day that brought together about 120 students from the sixth and seventh grades, along with their families, in the facilities of the Camilo Torres building of the UIS.
This event, which is part of the university extension program of EDUMAT-UIS, has as its central purpose to promote mathematical problem solving as a key tool for life. Through situations proposed by the “Mathematical Calendar”, students interacted with peers from different educational institutions, shared knowledge, explored various mathematical strategies and strengthened cognitive and social skills in a collaborative environment.
Students from 27 educational institutions from different regions of the country participated in this edition, including the municipalities of the metropolitan area of Bucaramanga: Floridablanca, Girón and Piedecuesta. Also present were schools linked to the Departmental Secretary of Education, such as Colegio Integrado Ezequiel (Florián), Colegio Camilo Torres (San Vicente de Chucurí), Colegio Integrado de Puerto Parra, Colegio El Pórtico (Rionegro) and Colegio Carlos Julio García. In addition, delegations from the municipality of San Martín (Cesar) and from Honda (Tolima), represented by Colegio Castillo del Rey, also participated.
The Encounter not only seeks to awaken interest in mathematics, but also to enhance the talents of students, motivate them in their academic training and project them as future professionals, thus promoting admission to higher education programs and contributing to the strengthening of the “UIS we want”.

For this reason, EDUMAT-UIS extends an invitation to the entire educational community interested in the development of mathematical thinking, especially to teachers committed to quality education, to participate in the XXV Meeting of Teachers, to be held on August 29. Likewise, it is encouraged to continue preparing students from different levels (grades 4-5, 8-9 and 10-11) for the next academic meetings.
