Professor Carolina Vargas Porras, from the School of Nursing, represented the Universidad Industrial se Santander as a speaker at the CISTI’2025 – 20th Iberian Conference on Information Systems and Technologies, held in Lisbon, Portugal.
In this important international event, in the section Information Technologies in Education, the paper entitled “Artificial intelligence: ”support or potential risk“ for nursing care plans” was presented. Authors: Carolina Vargas Porras, Luz Eugenia Ibáñez Alfonso, professors of the School of Nursing – GRINFER Research Group and Professor Emilio Justiniano Cárcamo Troconis, of the School of Systems and Computer Engineering, of the Advanced and Large Scale Computing Research Group – CAGE.
The work addressed the interpretation of nursing students’ perceptions of the use of artificial intelligence, AI, in the development of care plans. AI improves efficiency and accuracy in care planning, favoring the adoption of standardized languages and the personalization of interventions. Students perceive AI as a valuable support for optimizing care planning, provided its use is guided by competent professionals. AI should complement, not replace, clinical judgment and human values in nursing. Ethical and technical training is required for the responsible integration of AI into nursing education and practice.
The event offered a very interesting, enriching and interdisciplinary academic program on topics focused on emerging technologies and the use of artificial intelligence in various fields of application with the participation of renowned speakers from different countries.
Participation in this international event was possible thanks to the support of the mobility program of the Vice Rector’s Office for Research and Extension, and reinforces the institutional commitment to scientific research of impact and international visibility of the knowledge generated from our classrooms.
