Registration open for the chromatography and mass spectrometry course at UIS

Laboratorio del CENIVAM UIS

From July 29 to August 1, 2025, the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS), through the Center for Research in Biomolecules (CIBIMOL) and the Center for Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry (CROM-MASS), opens the doors to the “Theoretical and practical course on advanced instrumental analytical techniques: chromatography, mass spectrometry and their coupling”, a high-level academic experience.

The keynote speaker will be Elena Stashenko, professor and researcher at the School of Chemistry, director of the National Research Center for the Agroindustrialization of Aromatic and Medicinal Tropical Plant Species (CENIVAM) and an international reference in analytical chemistry.

During 40 intensive hours, participants will learn advanced techniques such as gas chromatography (GC/MS, GC×GC/MS), liquid chromatography (HPLC, UHPLC), and their coupling with mass spectrometry (LC/MS), including tandem systems such as QqQ, Q-ToF and Q-Orbitrap. In addition, the fundamentals for the interpretation of mass spectra will be addressed and practice will be carried out in laboratories of high scientific and technological capacity.

Beyond the course: applied science and outreach

This course is part of the “Training and outreach program in biodiversity, instrumental analytical chemistry and its applications” offered by CENIVAM, which includes other academic spaces of great impact, such as the course on psychotropic, toxic and poisonous substances, and the international course on aromatic and medicinal plants and their derivatives, now in its eighth edition.

The program also offers the opportunity to participate in scientific tours of the Botanical Garden “A World in a Garden”, a space to explore plant biodiversity and its scientific potential. It also offers the workshop “Chemistry with essence”, focused on transforming biomass into useful products, promoting the circular economy without generating waste.
