The possibility of linking the Universidad Industrial de Santander, UIS, as an institutional member of the College, opening the possibility of strategic alliances with each of the academies that comprise it, was the conclusion reached after a meeting held between the UIS rector, Hernán Porras Díaz and the ten representatives of the Colegio Máximo de las Academias de Colombia.
“This visit strengthens the link between the Colegio Máximo and our University and enhances the joint work for knowledge and the country,” said Rector Porras Díaz.
For his part, Gabriel Carrasquilla Gutiérrez, president of the College and of the National Academy of Medicine, highlighted the willingness of the University to articulate joint actions. “We have found an institution open to dialogue, with a great capacity to generate academic and scientific synergies”.

It was the beginning of a profound dialogue between the national academy and the public university that has been able to consolidate itself as a reference. The Academies saw in the UIS a management model, a first-class scientific platform and, above all, an institution committed to society and the country.
A tour
After the meeting, the representatives of the Colegio Máximo de las Academias de Colombia toured the main campus and talked about the great changes that have taken place in infrastructure.
“To come back after two decades and find this transformation is really pleasing. This university today has a clear vision and a national projection that excites. I leave deeply surprised and satisfied,” said Eduardo Durán Gómez, president of the Colombian Academy of Language and former professor of the UIS School of Law.

For Hernando Monroy Benítez, president of the Colombian Society of Engineers, the growth of the UIS is evident: “I have known this university for years and the change is amazing. Not only in infrastructure, but also in services for students and professors. UIS plans judiciously and it shows. What we have seen here should be replicated in other regions of the country.”
The delegation of the Maximum College of Colombian Academies was led by its president, Gabriel Carrasquilla Gutiérrez, who also presides over the National Academy of Medicine. He was accompanied by: Eduardo Durán Gómez, president of the Colombian Academy of Language; Hernando Monroy Benítez, president of the Colombian Society of Engineers; Saúl Sotomonte, vice president of the Colombian Academy of Jurisprudence; Armando Martínez, president of the Colombian Academy of History; Héctor Fabio Rucinque, president of the Colombian Geographic Society; Mauricio Uribe, president of the Colombian Society of Architects; Helena Groot de Restrepo, president of the Colombian Academy of Exact, Physical and Natural Sciences; and Francisco Piñeros, president of the Colombian Board of Arts and Sciences.
