The Industrial University of Santander (UIS) continues to operate its libraries across different campuses, ensuring access to bibliographic resources, study spaces, and technological tools for students, faculty members, administrative staff, and alumni who continue carrying out academic or professional activities during this intersemester period.
From June 1 to July 30, the libraries at the Main Campus, the Faculty of Health Sciences, and the Floridablanca campus remain open Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The institution offers a total of 65,000 bibliographic items, 115 computers, and hundreds of academic spaces. In addition, self-checkout and self-return machines are available to provide a more autonomous service.
What are the requirements for accessing and borrowing UIS resources?
Among the requirements established by the University’s Library Directorate for access to its facilities and the borrowing of bibliographic and technological materials are the following:
- Present a valid university ID card when entering any UIS campus or facility.
- When requesting a book from library staff or using a self-checkout machine, present either the physical or digital university ID card to complete the borrowing process.
- During this intersemester period, study cubicles and computer labs will be available without prior reservation due to lower student demand.
- After borrowing bibliographic materials, members of the university community will have 15 calendar days to return them. Failure to comply with this policy will result in a fine of COP 2,400 per day until the materials are returned and the corresponding clearance certificate is issued.

“One of the main benefits the University provides us is the library. It is a free study space where you can use whiteboards, find comfortable places to work, and study in a quiet environment. In addition, you have the option of using computers and receiving assistance from tutors on certain days of the week,” said Santiago Rueda Vargas, a UIS student.
Through these efforts, the UIS Library continues to reaffirm its commitment to providing access to knowledge, promoting innovation in information services, and strengthening spaces that support the academic development of the entire university community.
