The Industrial University of Santander becomes the heart of innovation in Colombia with the development of Colombia 5.0, an event led by MinTIC and one of the most important gatherings in the country’s technology ecosystem.
During April 15 and 16, hundreds of attendees—including students, entrepreneurs, experts, and citizens—are taking part in an agenda that brings together the best of digital transformation: artificial intelligence, video games, animation, EduTech, and AgroTech. From early hours, UIS auditoriums and academic spaces are filled with knowledge, experiences, and networking.
With 16 years of experience, presence in 11 departments, and more than 135 partners, Colombia 5.0 is not just an event, but a platform that connects regions, promotes digital talent, and strengthens collaboration between academia, industry, and government.

From the academic perspective, the impact is evident. Luis Carlos Gómez Flores, director of the School of Systems Engineering and Informatics, highlighted the value of the event:
“The main importance lies in the articulation of sectors: the education sector, the government, academia, industry, and investors, around the opportunities currently offered by information and communication technologies.”
He also emphasized the role of UIS as the event’s host: “This represents the leadership we have been exercising for many years in technology and education. It further consolidates opportunities for our students and professors.”
A national commitment to digital transformation
The event, led by the Ministry of ICT, aims to bring technology closer to the regions and generate real impact in communities. This was explained by Andrés Galindo, Deputy Director of the IT Industry.

“Colombia 5.0 seeks to coordinate the efforts of regional governments, mayors’ offices, chambers of commerce, universities, and industry associations, integrating an academic agenda, gaming zone, trade exhibition, and activities for talent.”
He also highlighted the selection of UIS as a strategic venue:
“It is a flagship university in the department, with leadership in research and technology. It has been a key partner in developing this major effort in the region.”
One of the main challenges remains access to and adoption of technology by citizens.
“The challenge is for people to directly understand the tools and how they impact their lives. Only then can they make informed decisions in their digital transformation process,” Galindo added.
Under the slogan “Access, sovereignty, and productivity,” Colombia 5.0 is being experienced in Bucaramanga as a space for learning, innovation, and opportunities. Beyond the conferences, the event is allowing attendees to interact with new technologies, learn about trends, and project their future in the digital economy.
