Laura Valentina Arciniegas Landínez made a rotation in the Electrophysiology Laboratory of the Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam (The Netherlands), after being admitted by the Department of Cardiac Electrophysiology of the Erasmus University.

She is a medical student and a member of the UIS Electrocardiography Research Group directed by Professor Óscar Leonel Rueda Ochoa, a fact that led to the trip following the existing agreement between the Group and Erasmus.

The Erasmus University Medical Center is a hospital in Rotterdam and is the largest and one of the most important scientific university medical centers in Europe.

“Everything was really very positive, it was much more than I could have expected because the plan was to do a two-month rotation, do research and return, but the members of the laboratory of the medical center really liked my work, so I am still linked to the Erasmus Medical Center for a year, time in which I will continue working to complete my project that I started there,” said the 22-year-old.

In 2022, when she was in her fifth semester, she decided to join the Electrocardiography Research Group and during this time it has been one of her main sources of learning thanks to Rueda Ochoa’s guidance.

“I entered because I liked ‘cardio’ and with the bases I had I have grown a lot thanks to Professor Oscar Leonel and I feel that this learning has been important and helped me a lot in the rotation because I came with specific bases and a little advanced cardiology,” said the student.

Now the young woman will begin her last year of Medicine at the UIS and will continue her research work with Erasmus.

The Electrocardiography Group has been working for more than 30 years in favor of research and if you want to know more about it, you can call 6076344000 extension 3124 or go to the Department of Basic Sciences of the UIS School of Health.
