IPRED-UIS student receives recognition from the National Palace of Art in Medellín

The Industrial University of Santander (UIS) celebrates the recognition awarded to B. Marcell Bohórquez Gualdrón, a fine arts student at the Institute for Regional Outreach and Distance Education (IPRED), by the National Palace of Art and Fashion, one of the country’s most representative cultural institutions.

The distinction was awarded in recognition of his outstanding work as a curator and his ongoing commitment to creating spaces for emerging artists, as well as for students at the UIS and the Municipal School of Arts (EMA). His work has contributed significantly to revitalizing the art scene and raising the profile of new creative proposals in high-impact settings.

The award was presented by José Cirilo Henao, curator of the National Palace, and Jean Fruhali, Knight and Marquis of Malta, who highlighted B. Marcell Bohórquez Gualdrón’s dedication, leadership, and contribution to Colombian art. During the ceremony, they emphasized how his management allowed the UIS to position itself in artistic conversations of national scope, consolidating its role as an academic and cultural reference point.

Promoting emerging art with the UIS seal of approval

As part of this distinction, B. Marcell Bohórquez Gualdrón led the “Albedo” call for entries, an initiative that sought to bring a group of UIS students to exhibit at the iconic National Palace during Gallery Night, scheduled for April 30. This event set a precedent, as it was the first time that a collective exhibition of this kind had been presented at the Palace, strengthening the institutional presence of the UIS in strategic cultural settings.

His curatorial career began with the “L.C.E. Emergentes” project at the Casa Cultural El Solar, an event that reached its third edition at the Museum of Fine Arts in Bucaramanga. In addition, she promoted more than ten initiatives, several of them on an annual basis, such as “Flor es ser,” “Fragmentos del Inconsciente,” and “Premios Aurora.” These projects opened up opportunities for hundreds of new artists and consolidated artistic training and circulation processes in the region.

This recognition not only highlighted the talent and leadership of B. Marcell Bohórquez Gualdrón, but also reaffirmed the commitment of the UIS and IPRED to comprehensive training, social outreach, and the strengthening of art and culture as fundamental pillars of regional and national development.
