The United Nations General Assembly declared February 11 as the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, in recognition of the key role they play in the scientific community and technology.

As every year, the UIS joins this special date and this Friday there will be a discussion with prominent scientists, to generate a rapprochement between young people from educational institutions in the department and researchers in different areas. At the same time, it will be a space to inspire and motivate the new generations in the selection of scientific careers as a life project.

Dr. Giovanna Rincón Cruz (microbiologist), Dr. Andrea Silva (biologist), Dr. María Cristina Plazas (medical physicist), and Dr. Alejandra Melfo (astrophysicist), will be the guests at the activity that will begin at 8:00 a.m. in the Aula Máxima of the Faculty of Sciences.

Admission is free, but you must register in this form: https://forms.gle/CvpL9mUzHzojAqmK6. If you are unable to attend, you can follow the live transmission: https://bit.ly/3GBgeYw

As part of the activities, the laboratories of the Faculty of Sciences will open their doors to receive students from five schools of the Metropolitan Area of Bucaramanga, so that young people can interact with the professionals who work there and get to know these places of learning from the inside. The tour will begin at 2:00 p. m. Likewise, the Women and Girls in Science Month Committee is planning more events that will take place in February at the University.
