In an alliance that transforms territories, UIS Saravena begins to become a reality this Friday

Equipo Gestor UIS Saravena

In the heart of Saravena, where for decades access to higher education has been a distant privilege for many young people, a historic commitment is beginning to take shape. Tomorrow, Friday, February 27, on the grounds known as Parque de la Vida, construction will begin on the first phase of the Saravena campus of the Industrial University of Santander (UIS), a project that symbolizes hope, rootedness, and social transformation.

The new campus is not an isolated project; it is the result of a strategic alliance between the Industrial University of Santander, Colombia’s Ministry of National Education, the Government of Arauca, and the Mayor’s Office of Saravena. This institutional partnership recognizes that higher education is the most powerful tool to close historic gaps in territories that have faced neglect and limited opportunities.

For years, hundreds of young people from Arauca have been forced to migrate to other cities to continue their studies, bearing the economic and emotional costs that this entails. Others have simply had to give up on their professional education. With this new infrastructure, the message is clear: talent does not have to leave in order to grow.

The university campus is envisioned as a knowledge hub with a territorial focus. In addition to expanding educational coverage, it will promote scientific and technological projects aligned with the productive and environmental realities of the department of Arauca. The goal is to train professionals capable of providing solutions to local challenges, boosting the regional economy, and strengthening the social fabric.

The groundbreaking ceremony will bring together national, departmental, and municipal authorities, social representatives, members of the academic community, and students, who will take part in an event featuring institutional remarks and a student testimony that will give voice to the youth benefiting from this project.

Allowing young people to study in their own territory is planting the seeds of sustainable development. It means investing in leaders who know their context, understand the needs of their communities, and can drive transformation from within. Saravena is not only inaugurating a physical structure; it is inaugurating a new chapter in its educational and social history.

Through this interinstitutional alliance, Arauca positions itself as a benchmark in innovation applied to its own realities. Higher education ceases to be a distant dream and becomes the foundation of a future built from within the territory, with real opportunities for its youth.
