The Mechanical Engineering Technical Conference brings together national and international experts to discuss energy transition, technological innovation, and industrial symbiosis.
Circular Economy and Industrial Symbiosis is taking place at the Industrial University of Santander (UIS) until May 8 at the Luis Eduardo Lobo Auditorium.
The event brings together researchers, professors, students, and industry representatives through an academic agenda featuring lectures, workshops, panel discussions, and research presentations focused on decarbonization, renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, hydrogen, and artificial intelligence applied to industrial processes.

Collaboration and sustainability to transform territories
During the main panel on industrial symbiosis and sustainability, participants highlighted the importance of strengthening collaboration among funding entities, universities, and the industrial sector to promote innovation initiatives with social and environmental impact.
Moreover, one of the key conclusions of the discussion was that the transition toward sustainable models does not depend exclusively on large-scale industrial projects, but also on local initiatives capable of generating significant changes in communities and regional productive ecosystems.
Furthermore, panelists reflected on current challenges related to protecting vulnerable ecosystems and the need to strengthen collaboration between academia, industry, and government to accelerate sustainable innovation and technological development.

In this regard, the role of mechanical engineering and emerging technologies in creating added value through more efficient industrial processes aligned with circular economy principles was emphasized.
Additionally, another relevant topic addressed during the conference was the need to build technological ecosystems with international projection, enabling the development of exportable solutions and technologies that contribute to the country’s economic and environmental development.
Finally, the Mechanical Engineering Technical Conference: Circular Economy and Industrial Symbiosis is led by the School of Mechanical Engineering and the Renewable Energy and Decarbonization Research Group (SERD), consolidating itself as a space for academic dialogue and collective construction of solutions for a more sustainable energy future.
