At the start of the second academic period of 2025, Rector Hernán Porras Díaz handed over 72 remodeled offices to professors from the Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics departments of the Faculty of Sciences.
The new locations have undergone renovations, including new flooring, air conditioning installation, improvements to electrical and communications networks, and updated furniture.
The goal is to remodel a total of 128 offices, so the remaining 56 will be delivered soon to also benefit faculty members from the School of Biology.

“Of those 128, we are delivering 72 offices today. We have improved the infrastructure by completely replacing the floors and corridors, completely remodeling and restructuring the electrical and communications networks, and installing new furniture. With this, we are dignifying the work of the teachers in this faculty and bringing them in line with the other faculties,” said Iván Augusto Rojas Camargo, head of the Physical Plant Division.
This figure represents an increase from 85 offices to 128, representing a 50.59% increase.
“It’s a positive change because now the conditions are completely different. It feels more spacious, and the air conditioning is comfortable. We needed it, and they are very nice,” said Ángela Marcela Montaño, a professor at the School of Chemistry.
Her colleague Fabián Ríos agrees, saying that “the new offices represent a great improvement on what we had before. Now these spaces allow us to raise the quality of service we provide to students and visitors to the School of Chemistry.”

In this department, the number increased from 21 to 34, while in Physics, the increase was from 24 to 30 locations.
“I am infinitely grateful because the change is total. I have been at this university for 46 years, so perhaps I am the person who can best describe the change. I think they are very beautiful, and our university is truly transformed,” said Esperanza Aguilar de Flórez, professor at the School of Physics.
These facilities are located between the first and third floors of the Lightweight Building of the Faculty of Sciences.
