The project for the construction of the Saravena University Campus (Arauca) took another step forward on Thursday, July 31, toward becoming a reality in the near future following a technical visit to the Industrial University of Santander.
During the visit, all parties involved in bringing this initiative to fruition agreed on the roadmap to follow and defined responsibilities and duties in order to bring public higher education to Saravena within the established timeline.
The meeting was attended by UIS Rector Hernán Porras Díaz, the Arauca Governor’s Office, led by Ariel Pedraza, Secretary of Education for the department, as well as social managers and members of the consulting team of architects for the ‘Saravena University Campus’ project, and Luis Álvaro Gallardo, Director of Education Promotion at the Ministry of National Education.

“It is a very positive and important outcome for the Arauca community. During this technical visit, all parties involved in the project have reached an agreement, including the Arauca Governor’s Office, the Ministry of Education, the Saravena Mayor’s Office, a group of managers, and, of course, the Industrial University of Santander. Today, July 31, we can say that all parties are coming together and that this is a project that will be developed in the coming months to make it a reality in terms of how the UIS will operate in Parque de La Vida, which is where the Arauca community will have its own university campus,” said Jorge Villamizar Morales, UIS manager in Territories.
This reaffirms the UIS’s commitment to the Arauca community, following the work done to bring its academic offerings to Saravena in the second semester of 2025. Initially, there will be programs for young people to take classes at the Rafael Pombo Technical Industrial Educational Institution, which are expected to begin in August, once approval is received from the Ministry of Education.
