With a candidate forum at UIS Floridablanca, the process to elect the student representative to the Academic Council is moving forward

Students Cristian Díaz Franco, from the Systems Engineering program, and Ciro Pérez Vargas, from the Philosophy program, accepted the invitation to participate in a new forum for candidates involved in the election process for the new student representative to the Academic Council of the Industrial University of Santander for the 2026–2028 term.

The election, convened by the UIS General Secretariat via Resolution No. 0110 of February 2, 2026, mandates the holding of forums with the candidates participating in this process who met the registration requirements, prior to the voting that will determine who will be the new student representative to join the University’s highest academic authority.

“It was a very interesting forum. In all the years I’ve been studying at UIS Floridablanca, there had never been a forum to listen, ask questions, and clarify doubts directly with those aspiring to serve as representatives. Although the participants rambled in some of their answers and we didn’t find very solid proposals for our campus, the exercise is valuable as a space for discussion,” said Andrés Felipe Gutiérrez, a student in the Cultural and Creative Business Administration program.

During the forum, students raised concerns with the candidates and invited them to gain a deeper understanding of the dynamics of the Floridablanca campus, which today is home to more than 400 students currently enrolled in three on-campus undergraduate programs. “Learning about the candidates’ proposals is very important for understanding how the person who will represent us views the dynamics and needs of our campus. Unfortunately, we noticed that the candidates do not have a deep understanding of UIS Floridablanca, and we hope that whoever is elected will be able to address the most important issues on this campus,” noted Isabella Bautista, a student in the Cultural and Creative Business Administration program.

According to the schedule established for this process, the final forum leading up to the online voting day will take place on the main campus on Wednesday, March 18. Online voting will be held on Thursday, March 19, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
