Amid theater, academic guidance, well-being activities, and deeply moving testimonials, the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) consolidated this Tuesday a welcome day that marked the official start of university life for hundreds of new students in the 2026-1 academic period.

The second day of activities was filled with educational, cultural, and comprehensive support initiatives. The UIS Theater Group opened the program with a cultural performance that connected attendees with the institution’s artistic spirit, followed by key academic information sessions led by Camilo Londoño, Director of Admissions and Academic Records, who guided students on enrollment, transfers, retention, the academic calendar, and other essential processes for their university journey.
In addition, new members of the UIS community learned about the benefits of the Academic Excellence System (SEA), which offers academic, pedagogical, and cognitive support, socioeconomic assistance, and biopsychosocial care, along with Student Welfare services and a workshop on psychological first aid focused on mental health care. The day also included a special welcome session for parents, strengthening the bond between the institution and the families supporting this new beginning.
One of the most emotional moments of the day was led by the students themselves, who overcame their fears and stepped forward to share their stories, dreams, and expectations with the entire audience. This gesture of courage reflected the enthusiasm and confidence with which they are embracing this new stage.

“I have high expectations. It’s a beautiful university, one of the best, and I’m very grateful to have started here. Although I’m also full of nerves because it’s a new city and a drastic change, I hope everything goes well,” said Mariangel Castillo Carvajal, a student from Cúcuta, who also highlighted the campus’s spacious and comfortable facilities.
Meanwhile, Isabela Sofía Rojas, a Law student, stated: “I feel we’re in a good place, with a high academic level, where we can grow both personally and academically. I expect to make many friends, learn a lot, and have a great time at university.”
From the Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics, Sharick Michelle García Obregón, from Valledupar, sincerely shared the challenge this new stage represents: “It’s going to be difficult because I’ve never lived alone, but it’s another life challenge. Mathematics isn’t easy, but I know everything will be fine.”
With this day, UIS reaffirms its commitment to holistic education that goes beyond academics, providing tools, support, and experiences that strengthen confidence, well-being, and a sense of belonging from the very first day of university life.
