UISALUD joins World Cystic Fibrosis Day by promoting prevention and education

Folleto informativo Día Mundial de la Fibrosis Quística

Today marks World Cystic Fibrosis Day, a date promoted by the World Health Organization (WHO) to raise awareness about this chronic, progressive genetic disease that mainly affects the lungs and digestive system.

According to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF), cystic fibrosis affects nearly 70,000 people worldwide, and although there is still no definitive treatment, medical advances have allowed patients’ life expectancy to currently exceed 50 years, when in past decades it barely reached adolescence.

The most common symptoms include chronic cough with thick phlegm, recurrent respiratory infections, difficulty breathing, digestive problems, and weight loss. Therefore, early detection and specialized treatment are essential to improve patients’ quality of life.

Although cystic fibrosis cannot be prevented, its complications can be managed through early diagnosis, adherence to medical treatments, proper nutrition, respiratory physiotherapy, moderate physical activity, regular check-ups, and prevention of respiratory infections.

On this World Day, the WHO calls for strengthening research, expanding health coverage, and providing comprehensive support to patients and families.

UISALUD joins in this commemoration and reaffirms its commitment to promoting health by promoting prevention, education, and comprehensive care for the benefit of its users and the community at large.
